Our New Forest caravan sites offer different ways to enjoy that experience, from a simple woodland setting to a campsite with showers, a shop and a takeaway. So if you need electric hook-up for a short touring break or want a seasonal pitch for regular escapes, here’s how to choose your next base.

Which New Forest caravan site is right for you?

Start with the facilities you need. Holmsley offers electric pitches alongside toilets and showers. Setthorns has hardstanding and electric hook-up options and opens all year, but you’ll need your own chemical toilet. Matley Wood offers a simpler, non-electric stay, also requiring your own chemical toilet.

Setthorns: woodland touring with electric hook-up

Setthorns Campsite suits caravanners who enjoy a woodland setting and have their own onboard facilities. Open throughout the year, it offers scope for autumn weekends and winter breaks as well as summer holidays.

Hardstanding and electric hook-up are available. For extra space, the Select hardstanding option combines a larger pitch with electricity.

There are drinking water taps and chemical toilet disposal facilities, but no toilet or shower blocks. Bring your own chemical toilet and plan to use your caravan’s washing facilities.

Walking and cycling are part of the attraction here, with access to a nearby disused railway route. It’s an appealing base for days when you want to leave the car parked and explore at a slower pace.

Holmsley: practical comforts for family holidays

If your ideal caravan park in the New Forest combines outdoor space with everyday conveniences, Holmsley Campsite is worth a closer look.

Set on part of a former wartime airfield, it offers grass and non-electric hardstanding pitches alongside electric options. Toilets, showers, laundry facilities, a shop, takeaway and play area make it particularly useful for families.

You can mix forest outings with trips towards Christchurch and Bournemouth, then return for a relaxed evening at your caravan.

Matley Wood: a simpler forest escape

Matley Wood Campsite puts the emphasis on its natural surroundings. It’s a good option if you’re happy using your caravan’s facilities and want a base for exploring the woodland and nearby villages.

There are drinking water and chemical disposal points, but no toilets, showers or electric hook-ups. Your own chemical toilet is essential.

For arrival, check in at Denny Wood Campsite and collect your permit there. Check the open dates, available arrival days and minimum stay when booking, too.

This is the sort of break where a leisurely breakfast and a walk can be the whole morning’s plan. Pack a book, bring your walking shoes and leave yourself time to enjoy being away.

Aldridge Hill: open spaces near Brockenhurst

With streams, woodland and heathland around you, Aldridge Hill suits caravanners who enjoy a simple outdoor holiday. Grass pitches give the campsite a natural feel, while nearby Brockenhurst offers shops, cafés and pubs when you fancy heading into the village.

There are no electric hook-ups, toilets or showers, so arrive ready to use your own facilities. Dogs are welcome, making it an appealing choice for a break built around walking and time outdoors.

Ashurst: village conveniences and campsite facilities

Ashurst combines grass and hardstanding pitches with toilets, showers and laundry facilities. Nearby pubs, cafés, shops and the railway station make it a practical base if you’d like to leave the car parked for part of your stay.

There’s no electric hook-up, so plan your power needs before arriving. Pet dogs aren’t permitted, helping protect the area’s ground-nesting birds; assistance dogs are excepted under our campsite policy.

Denny Wood: a woodland retreat

At Denny Wood, natural features such as ferns and trees help create a feeling of space between camping areas. It’s a lovely setting for caravanners who enjoy woodland surroundings and spending their days exploring on foot or by bike.

Grass pitches are non-electric, and there are no toilet or shower blocks. Bring your own chemical toilet. Like Ashurst, Denny Wood does not accept pet dogs, with an exception for assistance dogs.

Hollands Wood: forest surroundings close to Brockenhurst

Hollands Wood is worth considering if you want woodland camping with village amenities nearby. Brockenhurst is a short walk away, giving you options for lunch out, picking up supplies or browsing the local shops.

The campsite has grass pitches, toilets, showers and laundry facilities, but no electric hook-ups. Dogs are welcome. It’s a good balance for families who enjoy a natural setting with everyday facilities close at hand.

Longbeech: an adults-only escape

For an adults-only caravan break, Longbeech offers grass pitches among beechwoods and clearings near Fritham. It’s an inviting choice for couples and friends who enjoy walking, wildlife watching and unhurried days outdoors.

Dogs are welcome, but there are no electric hook-ups, toilets or showers. Bring your own chemical toilet and everything you need for a stay using your caravan’s facilities.

Ocknell: northern New Forest walks

Ocknell places you among heathland and woodland in the northern New Forest, near Fritham. Grass and hardstanding pitches offer a choice of surfaces, with walking routes providing plenty of reasons to get out and explore.

There are toilets but no showers or electric hook-ups. Dogs are welcome. It’s a useful option if you want a natural setting with toilet facilities and are happy using your caravan for washing and power.

Roundhill: grass pitches between Beaulieu and Brockenhurst

Roundhill offers grass pitches, toilets and showers in a setting between two popular New Forest villages. There’s no electric hook-up, but the location makes a good base for walking, cycling and visiting Beaulieu.

Dogs are welcome, and free-roaming ponies are part of the campsite’s character. Enjoy watching them from a distance while leaving them undisturbed. For families, the mix of open space and nearby outings offers plenty of ways to spend a holiday.

Hardstanding or electric: what should you book?

These describe different features. Hardstanding refers to the pitch surface; electric hook-up, often shortened to EHU, supplies electricity. Choosing one doesn’t automatically include the other.

Before booking your touring caravan into a New Forest campsite, consider:

• Power: will you need a hook-up for the equipment you plan to use?
• Facilities: are you comfortable relying on your caravan’s toilet and washing arrangements?
• Space: will your caravan, awning and other equipment fit the chosen pitch?
• Dates: is your preferred campsite open?

Seasonal pitches in the New Forest

A seasonal pitch lets you leave your caravan on site and return for holidays throughout the agreed season. It can make regular breaks easier, with less towing and packing up between visits.

Prices are from the 2026/27 seasonal pitch information; extras and availability should be checked before applying.

An eligible pre-season option also runs from 30 September to 31 October 2026 at Holmsley and Setthorns, with hardstanding from £215. This is available to guests ending a current summer season or starting a winter season.

Seasonal stays have a maximum of 21 consecutive nights, followed by at least three nights away before returning. Review the terms and application details to choose the arrangement that suits your plans best.

Can you bring your dog?

Dogs are welcome at many but not all of our New Forest caravan sites, so your companion can join your adventures. Keep dogs on a lead on site and check the FAQ’s for important dog information before travelling.

Pack their usual bedding, towels and bowls, and leave room in your plans for relaxed walks together.
