A Weekend Steeped in History
Holmsley Campsite is located on the historic grounds of RAF Holmsley South, a World War II airfield once used by the Royal Air Force and the US Army Air Forces. Aircraft such as Spitfires, Typhoons, Mosquitos, Mustangs and B-26 Marauders all flew from this very site, playing an important role in the Allied war effort.
Here’s what you can expect if you’re staying with us over the 8th, 9th, or 10th of May at Holmsley:
VE Day Weekend Schedule
Thursday 8 May
- 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM – Bar open & Pie and Mash Special at the Takeaway
- 9:30 PM – Beacon Lighting Ceremony
Featuring a few words from RAF veteran and author of The Peace Dividend, Ade Pitman (MA Military History)
Friday 9 May
- 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – History Walk @Roundhill Campsite
- 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM – History Walk @ Ocknell Campsite
- 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM – Bar Open & Fish and Chips by Oz Catering
- 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM – VE Day Quiz
