With over 500,000 overnight stays this year alone, we recognise the responsibility we have to care for both our environment and the people who stay with us. Managing hygiene waste sustainably and respectfully across our New Forest campsites is a key part of that commitment.
How we manage hygiene waste responsibly across our campsites
That’s why we work closely with PHS, one of the UK’s leading hygiene services providers, to ensure the waste collected from our toilet facilities is handled in the most responsible way possible. Hygiene waste collected on our campsites is diverted away from landfill and taken to Energy Recovery Facilities across the UK. Here, waste that cannot be recycled is used to generate electricity which is fed back into the National Grid, helping to power homes, schools and businesses nationwide.
The process doesn’t stop there. Once energy has been recovered, the remaining material is sorted and reused within the construction industry. Valuable resources are extracted, with the remainder repurposed for uses such as road building, cement-bound materials and lightweight construction blocks.
Inclusive toilet facilities and the Dispose with Dignity initiative
Alongside environmental responsibility, we are equally committed to inclusivity and dignity. We are proud to support PHS’s Dispose with Dignity initiative, which addresses a long-overlooked issue in public washrooms. Historically, male washrooms have lacked appropriate facilities for the disposal of incontinence products. All of our campsites with toilet facilities across the New Forest provide male incontinence disposal bins, ensuring everyone can dispose of hygiene waste discreetly, respectfully and with dignity.
Small changes that make a difference
To further support our sustainability goals, all entrance mats across our campsites are made from fully recycled materials. It’s another small but important step in reducing our environmental impact while maintaining high standards across our sites.
These small but meaningful choices are helping us reduce our environmental impact while ensuring everyone feels considered and supported during their stay.
